I don’t know if there’s any song that’s prettier and more vivid than Cypress Avenue by Van Morrison.  Despite many interpretations of the song, I take it as a song about transgressive desire; wanting someone who is very young — too young — but not being able to have that person for the very same reason you desire them.  I don’t know if this is the “right” meaning of the song, but the way my life and mind works, this is how I take it.  Despite its conflict – that of sinful desire – it really is one of the most beautiful songs ever.  Much in  the same way that Lolita is one of the most beautiful novels ever, in places, despite its awful, egotistical, perverted narrator.
